Its almost Spring in this part of the world. In fact here in Ireland Spring begins in February so it’s technically Spring right now (even though it’s freezing cold outside). That’s okay though as like Summer brings beach bodies, Spring brings prep for Summer which means getting that beach body ready so like a lot of us I need to spend a lot of time in the gym.
Working out is great and is actually the most relaxing part of some peoples day, which is the reason why I’m writing this post. Some people don’t know how to behave in the gym, these poor gym manners can be extremely irritating and off-putting. It’s really important to be considerate of others in this public area. Here are 5 things you need to remember.
Cleanliness is next to godliness
The antibacterial dispensers and tissues at the gym are not some kind of decor, they are there for you to wipe the machines before you use them and more importantly for when you are done so that the next person doesn’t have to touch your sweat or whatever germs you carry around with you. I mean I know you, reader, are clean, but still, spread the word. Its always handy to carry hand sanitizer too.
This one is more for the gentlemen. Guys, we know weights are heavy but please try to spare us the extra loud grunt, you know the “grrrrruh” and “Yaaaah”. Its distracting and annoying. If it takes that kind of noise to lift the weight, the weight is too heavy.
Im not sure if this happens in the men’s changing room, but ladies stop coming to the gym with your mates and sitting in circles in the changing rooms chatting away. We need the benches!
If you are a swimmer like myself please shower before coming into the pool and wear a swimming cap. Chances are you are either covered with sweat from your workout or you’ve just come for a swim and lord only knows where you’ve been or what you’ve been doing all day (Again, reader, I know you never sweat and are always considerate, but still, spread the word). Most gyms will put chlorine in the pool but chlorine does not kill all the germs. Please think of the children… and me! This rule about showering also applies to steam rooms and the sauna.
Nasty keep your clothes on I told ya
Last but not least I know some of you are really comfortable with your bodies which is great but STOP walking around butt naked in the changing rooms. Think of the children… and please think of me!
